We are taking a very last-minute road trip through Michigan and ideally we would like to stay some place on the Lake Michigan shore tonight. Warren Dunes, my favorite place to camp, is of course full. Can you recommend other nice spots?

I am open to camping or cute, not-to-crowded hotels/motels, as long as they provide access to the lake.

We are coming from Chicago.

Failing lakeshore plans, other nice places in western or central Michigan would be okay.
